We Made This is a sewing and job skills training initiative of the ECDC African Community Center of Denver, designed for refugees and focused on self-empowerment. Its 12-week curriculum encompasses English language learning, civics for citizenship, financial literacy, job readiness and technical sewing skills to prepare participants for work in the local apparel industry.
We Made This is also a community-building program, with a strong emphasis on psychosocial support, cross-cultural friendships and self-expression through therapeutic art. Artisan graduates of the program are placed in jobs with Denver-area partners, or generate income by sewing the We Made This product line from home and earning 55% of sales revenue.
