Cultural Mentors

6 months

Project Term: Schedule Varies
Est. Hours: 1hr/week
Locations: Greeley

Our Cultural Mentoring and Exchange program gives you the opportunity to work directly with the refugees we serve. This is a six-month commitment in which you will work continuously with a family that has recently arrived into the U.S. During this time, you will focus on successful integration, independence, practicing English, and social bridging. Common activities include showing the family how to use the bus system, exchanging cultural recipes, and taking the family to community events. While it is important that you help your refugee family with skills to thrive in the US, your main job is to provide friendship to these new community members! We view this program as a cultural exchange, and the relationship you build with your family will be mutually beneficial.

LFS has been resettling refugees in the Rocky Mountain region since 1978, assisting refugees as they start new lives in the US to attain self-sufficiency and independence through support with housing, learning English, employment, social services, school programming, and more. As an organization approved by the US Government to also resettle Unaccompanied Refugee Minors, LFS works with foster parents from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds to provide special training and support on the adjustment needs of refugee youth.
