Eyni Jama

Eyni Jama | Somalia

Eyni Jama fled Somalia to Kenya in 2006 and was resettled to the U.S in 2013. She is attending the University of Colorado Denver studying to gain a Bachelor of Art in Psychology and Ethnic Studies. In her spare time, Eyni is a henna artist and a poet. She shares her poetry to encourage her fellow refugees to overcome their struggles and be a voice for their community. After she graduated from the Ambassador Program with the African Community Center, she’s now mentoring first-year refugee college students through the Alumni Mentoring Program. Eyni wants to build a bridge between cultures, and the Village Institute has given her an opportunity to be at the decision-making table as a board member and as the lead for the Refugee Council. She wants to use her personal experience to help refugee single mothers as she continues her college education.
